Training : Biocatalyst improvement and bioreactor cultivation: from basic concept up to intensified bioproduction (TP1 @CBS, Sfax, Tunisia, 13th April 2018)

(20th April 2018, CBS, Sfax): “Biocatalyst improvement & bioreactor cultivation: from basic concept up to intensified bioproduction”

PM1 was associated with 2 satellites events (TP1 and RT1), Training TP1 is briefly described hereafter.

Secondments have been planned in relation to each partner’s skills and expertise and the most relevant meeting institution as regards knowledge sharing and project activities. In WP2, exchanges between CBS and FS-USJ will be essential to share knowledge about the two considered strains, in relation to INSAT and TWB’s expertise for bioreactor and pre-industrial scale-up. This is coupled with two distinct training periods (TP1 and TP2), which will enable INSAT to share its knowledge and expertise to the whole consortium as well as scientists within the partner institutions in a more formalised way.

TP1 was a conference & theory training focussed on “Biocatalyst improvement & bioreactor cultivation: from basic concept up to intensified bioproduction” which has involved 3 experts from LISBP and TWB (ACEVES-LARA César, PICOT Marc and FILLAUDEAU Luc).

• Items : “Biocatalyst improvement & bioreactor cultivation: from basic concept up to intensified bioproduction”

• Objectives :

o Culture for Bioreactors (management, instrumentation, modelling)

o Operations, set ups & Technological range

o Sensors & Actuators for Bioprocesses

o Modelling of Bioprocesses

• Audience / Participants: scientist involved in IPM-4-Citrus (25 persons)

• Associated documents: list of participants and associated documents (pptx, video)

This TP1 was also discussed by project supervision committee with WP leaders. Considering the content of TP1, the objectives were to optimise the impact of TP2 (place, date and duration and audience) in agreement with IPM-4-Citrus. Considering Training TP2 “Industrial microbiology, fermentation and scale-up” associated with a Demo Day on “Scale up (from Erlenmeyer to bioreactor) and product recovery”, the consortium has acted to realised it at CBS (at valorization unit, Sfax, Tunisie) instead of LISBP (Toulouse, France). By this way, it will be easier to train engineers from CBS and MEDIS in association with 2 secondments (FILLAUDEAU Luc and ACEVES-LARA César). TP2 will also be extended to 2 weeks:

• Week 26: cell culture in bioreactor (with FILLAUDEAU Luc)

• Week 43: biokinetics modelisation (with ACEVES-LARA César)

A similar strategy could be conducted at USJ and will be discussed during Mid Term meeting.
